Throwing up quietly when you have bulimia is very difficult to do and will only improve with time. Please note that we do not encourage you to throw up at any instance because it is very dangerous and drains your body of important nutrients. It is understandable that once you become a bulimiac it is very difficult to stop oneself and society’s pressure does not do anything to alleviate the pain, but realize that if you truly want to normalize your life, eating healthier foods will be more beneficial. Just by trying more fruits and vegetables, you will realize that your urge to purge is significantly reduced.

There are plenty of health risks associated with bulimia nervosa. It causes a rapid depletion of nutrients in the the victims body. The high binge eating also leads to heavy intake of harmful calories - those that usually end up converting into fats. Then comes the purging and vomiting. This is very dangerous as the chemicals from the stomach thin tissue layers in the throat. This would lead to intense pain as the person swallows anything. Also, swollen cheeks is a common side effect of this. The worst health risk is death. The combination of all of the above symptoms eventually causes the body to give up.

There is no known cause of bulimia and so if you are suffering from it the only advise to be given is to make sure you don’t do anything harmful to yourself. First and foremost -avoid purging. Now this is a difficult task for many and so to tackle it we must first attack the source of it - binge eating. When you decide to eat - choose foods that will fill you up quickly and yet won’t cause you guilt later on.  Here is a list of foods you can eat - and i bet you already have most of these items at home. These will ensure that you won’t cause much harm to your body even if you are pro bulimic.

You have to keep in mind that purging food is dangerous as all the chemicals from your stomach slowly wear out the tissues in your throat. So instead, we are going to give you tips to make you feel full and yet not add any weight to your body (probably even lose weight).

Some tips to feel full include:

  • Drink more fluids during a small meal. For every time you lift a fork, take a sip of water. This way, the people at the dinner table will feel like you’re eating, and you aren’t consuming as much food.
  • Drink a tall glass of ice cold water to burn more calories. You’re body burns calories because it needs to adjust with the cold temperature. Besides, water provides volume but not calories.
  • Eat more protein. A number of studies indicate that calories-for-calorie, protein makes a person feel more full than carbohydrates or fats.
  • Eat more water-rich fruits, vegetables, and soups
  • Choose broth-based soups as a meal. Fewer in calories, but warm and filling.
  • Drink a steaming cup of hot tea/water to feel fuller. Green tea is especially recommended; it might not taste as great as other teas but one of the most beneficial.
  • Drink a steaming cup of coffee. It’ll curb your appetite, give you a wake up call (ie. caffeine) and make you feel full. This is good for mornings. Drink it with an apple or small portion of food to jump start your metabolism.

Becoming a vegan or vegetarian will also give you the same benefits and in fact you’ll feel lighter from the very first day. Pro bulimia is all about prevention.
